Peppercorns for sale from our very own New Zealand peppertree, the horopito.
The main biologically active constituent of Horopito is known as polygodial which is why horopito has a “hot taste” and exhibits significant anti-fungal and antibacterial activity.
Horopito is a slow growing plant that takes at least 5 years of growth before it can be harvested. Horopito leaves have traditionally been used by the Maori - consumed orally.  Horopito was used for treating diarrhoea and stomach ache and poor circulation; due to its astringent (tissue tightening) and antiseptic properties.

Horopito is known to assist circulation, and  help with chill-blains.
Horopito peppercorns - the seeds can be shipped to New Zealand customers only

Alternatively, try growing your own Horopito plants.  Horopito grows in the sun or semi-shade. The fruit is very attractive to birds.

The Horopito seed requires 4 weeks cold moist stratification at 5 degrees Celsius prior to sowing. A long dormancy is common. Expect 12-18 months for germination. Keep trays in shade to discourage weeds. Control moss with super Sulphur

100 seeds per pack

Seeds may be refrigerated up to 12 months until ready to be sown
